Indiana University Public Safety pursues IU's commitment to providing the greatest degree of safety for all members of the IU community, consistent with the university's mission and environment, applicable legal and professional standards, and available resources. IU Public Safety directly oversees the IU Police Department, University Environmental Health and Safety, and Emergency Management and Continuity with a team of approximately 300 dedicated staff on a 24/7/365 operational basis across all campuses.
Job Summary
  • Assures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and the safety of all faculty, staff, students, and visitors by conducting and documenting regular safety inspections of facilities on IU campuses.
  • Determines deviations, educates on corrective actions, establishes a schedule for compliance and conducts follow-up investigations, as necessary.
  • Responds to health/sanitation inquiries and complaints from the general public, IU faculty, staff, students, and visitors, and provides related technical advice, including but not limited to, providing information, referrals, and/or assistance as appropriate.
  • Conducts training and education of stakeholders on various public health related topics.
  • Processes Temporary Event Food Service Applications for IU Bloomington and regional campuses.
  • Collects environmental (animal, food, liquid waste, water) samples, maintains chain of custody, submits sample to the appropriate lab for analysis; performs interpretation of lab results and devises corrective actions, as applicable.
  • Reviews construction plans for retail food service establishments; performs on-site construction/renovation consultation on approved projects.
  • Maintains public record files including maintaining accurate and detailed files of all inspections, complaints, and related documents.

EDUCATION
Required
  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in public health, environmental health, science, or closely related field)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
  • 2 years of environmental health and safety or related experience
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
  • Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University Upon Hire
  • Certified Food Safety Manager as recognized by Title 410 IAC 7-22: Certification of Food Handler Requirements within 1Year from date of hire
  • Category 7A Certified Pesticide Applicator License 1 Year
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) as recognized by the National Swimming Pool Foundation within 1 Year from date of hire
  • Register as an instructor and proctor for an accredited Certified Food Safety Manager course within 1Year from date of hire

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position as well as the ability to move about the workplace for long durations. It requires effective communication, the ability to operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position one's self in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases. The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move in tight spaces to perform and complete inspections. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Exempt position with an annualized salary of $53,650.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
