Department Information
The mission of Laboratory Animal Resources (LAR) is to provide high quality, humane care for research and teaching animals at Indiana University Bloomington and ensure compliance with federal laws and guidelines and campus policies related to animal use. LAR is responsible for managing the campus core animal facilities and providing medical care and oversight for all campus facilities in which animals are maintained for research and teaching.
Job Summary
  • Provides animal husbandry and care for university animals used in research and/or education outcomes; performs various other laboratory animal support functions (such as cleaning and maintenance of laboratory and/or animal housing units and various equipment).
  • Receives, stores, and rotates feed, bedding, and other animal husbandry supplies and equipment; maintains proper sanitation, environment, and health status of housing units.
  • Maintain/verify proper record keeping (census, animal health, document sanitation and equipment maintenance).
  • Provides technical support for LARC and research investigators (treatments, sample collection for sentinels, weaning litters, and administering diets, etc.); monitors animal health and observes for overt signs of disease and report any changes/concerns in animal health; handles, restrain, and transfer animals as directed.
  • Assists higher level Animal Care Technicians and facility users and performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)

WORK EXPERIENCE
Preferred
  • Prior experience of animal care experience

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
  • Possesses a valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire

Preferred
  • ALAT (Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician) certification Upon Date of Hire

Working Conditions / Demands
This position requires the ability to move about for long periods of time, perform repetitive movements, and operate equipment, tools, or controls. It also requires the ability to move items weighing up to 40 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential duties with or without an accommodation.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
